Thomas had planned to propose on the Shore Path in Bar Harbor, and he and Brian had coordinated a location, time, and meetup plan. Brian was in place and ready, but as sometimes happens, a last minute change shifted plans.
What really helps in situations like this is spending a lot of time in the park and being intimately familiar with the different locations - so when Thomas mentioned that they were shifting plans and heading to Otter Point, Brian was ready to shift too and headed that way. They discreetly selected a new spot, and Thomas would keep an eye out for him at the newly agreed upon location.
Once Thomas and Caitlyn had settled in on the rocks, Brian positioned himself out of earshot and signaled to Thomas that he was ready to shoot. As Brian was sitting there pretending to photograph the sunset, a friendly couple started making conversation about what kind of birds were soaring above the water. Brian played along while keeping an eye on Thomas and Caitlyn, immediately shifting his lens over to capture Thomas’ proposal when he spotted him lowering to one knee.
“Wow, did you capture that? You should get their info so you can share the photos!” the couple said to Brian about the proposal.
“Well, he actually hired me to capture their moment,” Brian said with a laugh as he made his way over to congratulate the happy couple.
While it may not be the location that was originally planned, the light worked out beautifully.
The setting sun casting its golden glow over the rocks and backlighting the couple made for some truly stunning photo opportunities.
Not every last minute change of plans works out this beautifully, but we were happy this one did!
Many congratulations to this lovely couple :)
